After a lockdown season that felt like it lasted forever, we are all ready for a nice day on the patio. That’s right, your dog included!
If you are like me, you refuse to go anywhere without your fur babies, so I made a list of restaurants in Ottawa’s Byward Market that allow dogs.
Did I miss a restaurant? Let me know in the comments so I can add it to the list!
Aulde Dubliner & Pour House
Two-storey Irish pub. Dogs are allowed on the patio downstairs. The street can get very busy.
They have a very cool courtyard patio in the back, but unfortunately, dogs are not allowed there. The good news is that you can still bring your pup and sit on their front patio!
Located on a more quiet street. If you’re a sports fan, you will enjoy their big screen on the patio!
All meals are priced under $10.00 so very affordable. Dogs are allowed on the patio but keep in mind it’s on busy Clarence street.
I always see a dog or 2 on their patio when I walk by. Some even end up on their Instagram page. Also located on a busy street on Clarence, but ask to sit on the Parent avenue side if your dog prefers a more quiet street.
This tip was given to me by a member of the Ottawa Dog Group. They have a patio on the sidewalk and it looks like you can bring your pooch! Very busy street with lots of cars waiting for a parking spot.
Technically a brewery like the name suggests, but they have a nice patio that’s isolated enough from the street and their staff is friendly!
Definitely dog friendly, and during the Byward Barket, they become PUP 101!
My favorite! Located in Major’s Hill Park, you’ll be sure to enjoy the view here!
They have a new patio set up in front of the restaurant. Lots of people on this street as well!
Farm to table comfort food, pizza, brunch and craft beer. The patio is in the courtyard in the back.
Dogs are allowed with you on the patio. Located on a busy street on Clarence so if your dog is nervous, it might not be the best option.
Tucked away on St Patrick street, Taco de Oro also serves tacos and they allow dogs!
For pizzas cooked in a wood-burning oven, pasta & more. Located just across from the Aulde Dubliner, they also have a very busy patio.
A nice little open pizzeria with a cute isolated patio. They even have a small waterfall!
Only small dogs are allowed on their patio, so as long as you don’t bring a Great Dane, you’re good! It’s one of my favorite Thai places in Ottawa. The food is delicious and the prices are affordable too. A must visit!
Famous for their burger and all day breakfast!
For handmade noodles! They also closed off the whole street so you don’t have to worry about cars. Did I say you get to see your noodles being made?
I actually really like this place! They have handmade pasta and the patio is in the courtyard in the back. Very peaceful and nice!
For sushi and Asian fusion. Also located on very busy Clarence.
Zak’s Cantina & Zak’s Diner are located side by side and both allow dogs. Situated just beside Blue Cactus, so very busy as well.
Dogs are allowed outside the gate, so you will have to sit along the edge. Located in a beautiful historic building in the courtyard, as the name suggests.
Modern German cuisine, located down Dalhousie street. Delicious food, a must visit for sure!
Dogs are allowed as long as they’re kept outside the gate.
Mainly a steakhouse, but many other options to choose from. Located right at the corner of York street, so expect to see lots of foot and car traffic.
As long as the restaurant is not busy, you can bring your dog. Make sure to check beforehand!
Well behaved dogs are allowed on the patio (but really… if you don’t have a well behaved dog, please don’t bring them to any patio…). Play is owned by Stephen Beckta and if you want to try a bit of everything, this is the place for you as they serve appetizer-sized small plates.
Dogs are allowed as long as they sit outside the gate. The patio is built on an elevated platform in the courtyard. It’s my favorite place for tacos, but they have lots of other choices too.
You will have to sit along the edge so you can tie your dog outside the gate, but they are allowed. Located in the courtyard as well. The patio is not covered.
They were a bit hesitant about allowing dogs on the patio, so make sure you double check before you place an order. They might say only small dogs are allowed. Located in the central building of the Market, you cannot miss it. Your dog can sit on the patio with you, but you will have to leave your dog outside while you order at the counter.
Half hair salon, half cafe, this place is mostly known for its amazing looking brunch and interior.
Located down Dalhousie, they are very pet friendly and have great coffee!
Small Italian grocery store that I love! If there are two of you, one person can wait outside with the dogs while the other orders the best customizable sandwich inside. Their coffee is really good as well. Limited seating is available in front of the store, but it is not covered and gets pretty hot. My advice is to buy the sandwiches (absolutely worth it) and go to Major’s Hill Park for a picnic.
Someone will have to order inside while your dog waits outside with you (or vice-versa), but they have some small tables set up outside. Keep in mind it can get very hot. The good news? They have delicious soft serve ice cream.
Large patio located in the beautiful courtyard. Simply the best.
Located on Murray street, they now have a cute little patio set up behind the cafe and facing the courtyard. Our friend Montecristo Travels even got a treat from the owner!
Le moulin de Provence and Mill street
Thank you for the tips! I love Mill street but didn’t include it because it’s not in the Byward Market. Le Moulin de Provence is pet friendly, you’re right, but I didn’t include it due to hygiene issues.
What were the hygiene issues at Le Moulin? Just curious.
Hi Jason!
You can send me a private message and I’ll reply 🙂
I used to work there and let’s just say I’ve seen things…
Opulence Coffee on Dalhousie, pretty bare bones as they only have coffee, but great coffee. Dogs allowed in with you and treats are always provided. Wolfhound approved!
You’re completely right! I even went there with my 3 dogs, thank you for reminding me! I’ll ad it to the list as soon as I can 🙂
