This post is long overdue but without further ado, I present to you… Sawyer & Zorro!
When I first saw a photo of Sawyer and Zorro together, I instantly fell in love. The bond between these two is so special and it shows in every single picture I took this evening.
Before the session, I already had a clear vision of how I wanted the photos to look and chose the location accordingly. What I did not plan was the curious crowd gathered around us to catch a glimpse of this beautiful bird. I was hoping to make the photoshoot a little more graceful, but I think all they saw was me rolling around on the ground like an unattractive beached whale. That’s ok. They haven’t seen how worth it it was.
Let me introduce you to Zorro first. Zorro is a Moluccan Cockatoo and he’s 22 years old! He’s been with Sawyer’s family for 7 years now after he was given up by his 3 previous owners.
When Sawyer’s mom got pregnant, everybody assumed that Zorro would be too much to handle. Too much bird, too loud, too messy, too destructive.
However, ever since Sawyer was welcomed into the world, Zorro has been infatuated with him. In fact, he was already talking to his mom’s belly when she was pregnant. Sawyer’s mom knew right there and then that these two would become best friends.
Zorro would hang out in Sawyer’s room and help get him settled for nap time. He would chatter away and rock him on his little bouncy chair when Sawyer wanted to play. Now that Sawyer is more mobile, he always asks to hang out with his bird, go outside and play in his play house, pick berries, or even just play with toys together.
They are inseparable now, and definitely best friends for life.
The funniest part of it all? Zorro’s nickname.
Are you ready for it?
His name is Zorro. Zorro the Pink Chicken.
What lovely photos – and what a beautiful relationship! Plus it takes a pretty special woman to nurture “across species”… kudos to mom! ❤️
Thank you!
