Every year in the Byward Market in Ottawa, we have a day that goes to the dogs and it is filled with lots of fun events, not to mention all the businesses opening their patios and doors to the city pooches out there!
Here comes Billie the Aussie! I love her beautiful colors, I think she looks pawfect on that chair.
I am lucky to be the dog photographer each year and together we have raised a lot for Homes for Paws Dog Rescue. The theme this year was Bow Ties, generously offered to us by Guy & Compagnie, a company in Montreal that uses recycled fabric to make beautiful bow ties for your fashion seeking dog and cat with a matching hair bow or matching bow tie for you!
As if that wasn’t enough, The Modern Shop in the Byward Market, together with Justine Studio, have provided us with the gorgeous chair you see in the photos.
This is Shiro the husky. His mom is half Japanese (like me!) and his name means “white” in Japanese. Isn’t he gorgeous?
During the Byward Barket, many shops open their doors to your dogs and have water and treats ready for them. Some even have their own dogs welcoming everybody at the door, such as Pearl the cockapoo at Stunning!, Emma at Justine Studio and Jiminy Cricket and his crew at every Ottawa dog’s favorite spot in the Market, Cricket & Company.
This HUGE teddy bear’s name is (wait for it) BEANS. He wore a bow tie but he was so fluffy we can’t see it!
You can also take your dog to the Heart & Crown to get a burger for you that comes with a free one for your pup too! After you’re done and if you still have space, head over to the Cupcake Lounge for a delicious cupcake for you and a pupcake for your dog! He will love you for it.
This is Mila the Havanese. She sat like a lady and stared at the camera like a true Insta-Pup!
Have you had enough to indulge on already? Not too fast! Because you haven’t been to SasLove’s Meat Market yet and you HAVE to get their homemade dehydrated liver treats for your dog, right??
This is India, a rescue from (you guessed it) India! She was very nervous and scared due to her horrible past, but in the 3 seconds that I had, I was able to get a few photos of her and they turned out great!
Time to burn those calories!
You can now stroll around the Market and discover all the dog friendly options there for you to shop at. Start at Paper Papier and their flower shop Fleurissant. You will find lots of cute stationary and of course, beautiful plants and flowers for your home. On Sussex Drive, you will find boutique stores and high-end clothing stores such as Schad, where your dog will have plenty of space to walk around.
This is Phoebe the Havanese. She gives the best head tilts!
Down on York street, you will find 3 cute dog-friendly shops built side by side: Adorit, Frou Frou by Pat (I love this shop, many cute outfits to be found!) and Paul’s Vintage. Not only are they all dog friendly, they also have the cutest pups waiting for you: Sweet Oscar, spunky little Rosie and the sweetest 19 year-old sausage dog as well.
This is Sylvester the husky mix and Oslo the White Swiss Shepherd. They refused to stay put and I couldn’t get them to be together in the picture so I took a photo separately and merged them together.
There are MANY other dog-friendly spots and I have a blog coming soon to help you navigate through the Byward Market with your dog, but I will finish this post by adding the few boutique shops down on Dalhousie street.
They are a bit lesser known since they’re further out in the Market, but they are definitely worth it! All the little shops are lined up so I will give you a few and go discover the rest for a little adventure time!
Workshop Studio & Boutique is one of them, followed by ebb & flo and a quick stop at I Deal Coffee.
Here’s one last picture of the sweet Emma, who you can find at Justine Studio on York street.
If you’ve visited the Byward Barket already, thank you for coming and I hope you had fun! I will see you next year for more photos of your dogs!
